The last lesson covered the vision of the great whore or harlot, a symbol of the false religion that began at the Tower of Babel in Genesis when man tried to get to God in his own strength and power. The occult and the false system of religion, man making himself feel good about himself, deifying himself as a god, has continued down to this very day. This false religion will combine all the religions of man into one world religion that will be very powerful during the tribulation period. We pointed out several things that are leading to that. Denominations are merging, and important doctrinal differences are fading out as people come together in the name of unity. It seems the world is being prepared for this great one world church. Its symbol is a harlot, contrasting with the true symbol of God's church, the pure bride of Christ without spot or blemish. False religion would naturally be compared with a true bride as a harlot woman, one who is not legitimate, representing all the false religions of the world that are in opposition to God's true church.
This church is going to be composed of all the multitudes, peoples, nations, and tongues (Revelation 17:15b). What many believe is an ideal situation will be used by the Antichrist to gain power and legitimacy, because the whole purpose of this one world church will be to cause people to worship the Antichrist, the coming world leader, and to deify him as god. Eventually after the Antichrist successfully uses this one world church as a vehicle to rise to world power, he will turn upon her, destroy her, and take her wealth and power.
This woman's name is "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH" (Revelation 17:5b). This is the mother of all false religion; her roots go back to Genesis. The beast, or the Antichrist, will come. Revelation 17:1- ...
