Jezebel and Ahab: Spirits of Dysfunction

"Lord Jesus, as we sit at Your feet and we ask that You teach us about these unwanted spirits. Teach us Your understanding of this Jezebel and Ahab spirit. We have heard about these negative spirits but we want and hunger to know more. She is listed in Revelation too. This spirit is also found in the Old Testament in 1 Kings 19 and more. Come Lord and teach us Your higher and better ways of truth. For You are truth; you are Jesus 'The Truth' Christ. Amen."

Come with me on this spiritual adventure. Let us desire God's truth on this Jezebel and Ahab subject. We want truth, for this spirit is found in both Old and New Testaments.

Let us start with 1 Kings 19:1 and let us hear what the Spirit of the Lord has to say to the church of today.

And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, also how he had executed all the prophets with the sword. (1 Kings 19:1) NKJV1

First I want us to look into the original language to find the meaning of Jezebel and Ahab.

1. Jezebel means: no glory, inglorious, Baal is husband, she stands alone like an island2!

2. Ahab means: Father's brother.3 Uxoriousness, which means: foolish fondness for or excessive submissiveness to one's spouse.4

When a Jezebel spirit is present, look around for the Ahab spirit, which accompanies this dysfunctional equal. The Ahab spirit elevates the Jezebel spirit to a place of idol worship. This person places the Jezebel spirit upon a pedestal greater than God Himself. This person will do whatever the Jezebel spirit asks even if it goes against the Word of God. The Ahab spirit is submissive to the Jezebel spirit and will do whatever Jezebel wants. The Ahab Spirit is under the control of the Jezebel spirit.
