1. An Extreme Makeover Starts in the Mind

"Jesus grew in wisdom …"

Change always starts in the mind.

• Romans 12:2 (NLT)

To change I must first change my beliefs
I must believe I'm responsible for my actions
I must believe I can change

• Phil. 4:13 (NAS)

... liposuction, tummy tucks, face lifts, the whole works. They bring their extreme team of doctors and dentists and personal trainers and fashion consultants and they do whatever it takes to completely change the person's appearance. I have to admit - I watched it this last week and the results are astounding. I got to thinking - wouldn't it be interesting if we chose someone on our staff team and gave them an extreme makeover. Then I thought, well, who really needs a makeover on our staff team and I immediately thought of Pastor Stan. He's a musician and musicians are always trying to change their look and stay hip. So, we called an extreme team together to see what we could do with Pastor Stan. Just watch.

Ladies and gentlemen - the new look of Pastor Stan. You look good, man. What do you think? I kind of like it, except maybe the earring, I don't know about that.

Stan: Oh I can take that off. It's Deluxe 247, is that so tough for you people?

Kerry: So, you got a new name with your new look?

Stan: I got a new name and this is the house that I usually bring the rhythm and throw it down every seven, but playoffs today I'm off to my crib, peace.

Kerry: That's scary. Hopefully the liposuction scars will continue to heal. Thank you Pastor Stan.

There was an article in Time magazine a couple of weeks ago and it was called "After the Makeover." Time followed three extreme makeover participants long after the excitement and the botox had worn off. They found that many of them were having a lot of problems with their new look and their new life. Here is a quote from that article. "In its desire to produce inspiring fables, the program plays down those complications, but they are real. They raise important questions like - can human beings really change from the outside in?" The bible says extreme change has to occur from the inside out. That's why I'm starting a new series as we start the new year that I think is going to make an extreme difference in all of our lives.
