The expectations that people bring to church may or may not be valid. But what should we expect the church to be? Perhaps the best answers will be found in the church when it first began. A look at the Jerusalem church will prove beneficial.

I. Lives Are Changed as Minds Are Convinced. v. 36

A. A powerful presentation of Christ as Lord.

B. A careful consideration of the data presented.

C. A definite decision to believe the message.

II. Lives Are Changed as Conscience Is Convicted.

A. The truth presented touched a sensitive nerve.

B. They recognized their lack of appreciation of Christ.

C. They saw their false evaluation of themselves.

III. Lives Are Changed as Hearts Become Concerned. v. 38b

A. The acknowledgement of guilt produces a concern for forgiveness.


Part 2: Is the Truth Being Taught?

In the Jerusalem church the new believers "devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching…" Today's church must ensure that those who respond to the gospel in repentance, faith, and baptism are carefully grounded and nourished in the truth.
