Part 2: The Ministry of Indoctrination
Series: Helping People Grow Spiritually
Stuart Briscoe
Romans 6:1-14

Once people are "in Christ" and, accordingly, are no longer "under condemna¬tion" (Romans 8:1) they need to be taught two main things: first, what they have become and second, how to be what they have become.

I. Teaching People What They Have Become "in Christ."

A. What they should know about their baptism.
1. Their baptism-an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace.

2. Their baptism-not a substitute for faith but a sign of it.

3. Their baptism-not a means of justification but testimony to it.

B. What they should know about their position in Christ.
1. Their faith/baptism-incorporated them into Christ.

2. Their faith/baptism-united them to Christ in His death.
a. He died to sin-i.e. He accepted sin's penalty. See 6:23

b. The old self was crucified with Him-i.e. our penalty paid.
