1 Corinthians 3:5-9

There are many ways of looking at the Church. "God's husbandry are ye" is one of them (v.9). It means God's garden. The Corinthian church did not always fit this description. Paul's letter endeavors to rectify this.

A. A place to enjoy the fruits of holiness. Romans 6:22
B. A place to experience the fragrance of Christ. 2 Corinthians 2:15
C. A place to express the flowering of righteousness. Psalm 92:12-15
D. A place to exult in the freshness of worship. Psalm 96:9

II. God's Design for His Garden.

A. The work that needs to be done.
1. Preparation.
a. Plowing.

b. Planting.

2. Germination.
a. Life.

b. Growth.

Stuart Briscoe

Paul's objective in writing to the Corinthian church was to get it operating more like a church. Part of his strategy was to give the people a higher view of the church… "God's building are ye…" he said.

B. The place where God operates-"God's building."
C. The place that God occupies-"God's temple."

II. The Foundation. vv. 10-11

A. Limited to Jesus Christ.
1. Whose love we return. 1 John 4:19

2. Whose law we revered. Galatians 6:2

3. Whose life we reflect. Philippians 2:13-15
