OPENING ILLUSTRATION/JOKE: I heard about a man who went to the Dr. with terrible symptoms and after a series of tests and blood work the Dr. came back with a despondent look on his face and said, "Sir, I'm very sorry to tell you this, but we have run every test we can find and all of our results seem to indicate you have a rare form of rabies. As a matter of fact it's deadly and you don't have very long to live." Suddenly the patient pulled out a pen and paper and began to write feverishly. "What's that sir?" said the Dr., "if that's your will, you have a few days you may want to consult a lawyer". "No" said the patient, "This is a list of all the people I intend to bite before I die".

Well if we got real honest, more than a few have a list just like that. As a matter of fact that list can be very helpful for our purposes today. I need you to take out that list and hold it in the forefront of your mind, because...

PROPOSITION: I want to make a Proposition - I believe the reason you have a hard time forgiving those people is not only because of what they had done to you, but either because you have not experienced forgiveness yourself, or because you don't understand the forgiveness you have experienced.

You see - I am convinced that the reason many people find forgiving so difficult is because they really don't understand what it is God wants them to do.

There are at least 3 major misconceptions when it comes to forgiveness:

None of those things are true, and until you understand biblical forgiveness, you will find it incredibly difficult to ever forgive and you will live your life with bitterness, that will affect you and those around you.
