Truth You Can Trust as the Battles of Life Rage

INTRODUCTION: The permanence of God's word gives us something solid on which to rest our faith. The passage reminds us that God's word is settled in heaven, it is settled on earth, and it can be settled in our hearts and souls.
"To younger people, change is a treat, but to older folks change is a threat. We like to relax in our comfort zone and resist the dramatic changes going on around us and within us. But if we do, we fail to grow spiritually and we miss the opportunities God gives us to reach others with the Gospel."
EXAMPLE: I am not aging without resistance. The Bible witnesses to itself and its permanence.
Psalms 119:152, "I have known of old that You have founded them forever."
Psalms 119:160, "The entirety of Your word is truth,
And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever."
Matthew 5:18, "For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled."
1 Peter 1:24-25. "'All flesh is as grass,
And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.
The grass withers, And its flower falls away, But the word of the LORD endures forever." Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you."
2 Peter 3 teaches that even this earth will one day be dissolved, but His word will never pass away. (Matt 24:35)
Concerning His word:
I. YOU CAN HAVE CONFIDENCE. 89-90a
"settled" – established, preserved, hold firmly. Life here on earth is filled with relativities and you can be certain of change, however, there is one absolute on this earth that is established in heaven that will never change. Beyond earth, however, is heaven. Beyond time is eternity. Beyond change is the changeless promise of God. It is the one absolute for the Psalmist's life.
