I Peter 4:10-11

We are studying on Wednesday nights the subject of spiritual gifts. We're coming to what I think are the two most important areas of the study. We are studying the speaking gifts. Every child of God, every believer, has one or more spiritual gifts.

Spiritual gifts are God-equipped gifts, God-given gifts to believers to enable them to serve the Lord Jesus Christ effectively and to be a blessing to the body of Christ and to the winning of lost people to the Lord.

I'm sure all of you have seen and read accounts or maybe have even known personally children who were unusually and amazingly gifted. You have seen children, for instance, who have been able to play the piano at a very young age. It just seems to be something that is natural. It's astonishing the level of ability they may have. We call those kinds of children child prodigies.

There was a young man in the Orange Park area, two or three years ago, who was astonishing in his I.Q. and in his mental ability. He ripped right on through high school and he was around 10 or 11 when he went on to college. He was going to pursue about two or three PhD's. As just a young boy, he was a mental prodigy.

I heard about a man who was taking a census in the mountain country, and he came to a house and a mountain lady came to the door and he said to her, "How many children do you have?" She said, "I've got eight here and the ninth is at Harvard." He said, "My goodness, Harvard. What is he studying at Harvard?" She said, "Nothing. They're studying him!"

The truth of the matter is every born again, saved, washed-in-the-blood child of God has one or more spiritual gifts. It is a manifestation, as it says in these verses, of the manifold grace of God.
