What Happens After I Die?
In Ecclesiastes 7:3, Solomon, who wrote Ecclesiastes on the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, says, "Sorrow is better than laughter. It may sadden your face, but it sharpens your understanding. Then in verse 4 he said, "a wise person thinks about death." Now the message today is, "What Happens After I Die?" When you get up in the morning and pick up your morning paper which section of the paper do you read first? It reveals a little bit about what you think about and the person you are. I wonder how many of you read the most important page first; you read the sports page first? I think that is several of you. How many of you read the business section first? Some of you business-minded men and women read that section first. Not many of you read the front page first, a few do. How many of you read the comic section first? That would be a lot of folks. How many read the obituary section first? Well, not too many people do that, but some do. I like to read the obituary section first; if my name is not in it then I go on and have a great day, amen? And the Bible says it is a wise thing to think about death. That thinking about death can teach us some important things about life.
You know it use to be that not too many people wanted to talk about death or would think about it. But it is an interesting statistic that today more people are thinking about death and what happens after you die than at any time since they have been taking polls. As a matter of fact, more people said in a poll that they believed in heaven and hell and an after-life today than did in the 1950's when religion was at its peak in America. They took the survey then and the survey now and more people believe in a heaven and a hell now than believed in it in the 1950's. That is amazing isn't it?
