"Our Wonderful Advocate"
I John 2:1-2

If you have your Bible this morning turn with me to the epistle
of I John chapter two. I am going to read the first two verses of this
chapter. This will be a continuation of these series of messages entitled
"Love and Fellowship in the Family of God," all the way through this
great book in God's Word called I John. Today we are going to look at one
central thought and that is our Wonderful Advocate. Our Wonderful Advocate.
In chapter two, verses one and two, the Bible says, "My little
children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if
anyone sins we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;
and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for our only, but
also for those of the whole world.' 'Of the whole world." 'Of the whole
world." That is why Jesus died on the cross.
God''s Word here begins in this text with a title of endearment- A
title of intimacy. A title of a special nature to a group of people that
John is writing to HMe is sayina, "My little children,' to those to whom
I am endeared, to those who are special to me, to those that mean every-
thing to me, to those special individuals in my life. He said, "My little
children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin."
God's standard, God's Advocate, and God's provision, all of that
makes up today our Wonderful Advocate.
First, God's Standard. God has a standard for your life today.
God has a standard for your life today. That standard is that we may not
sin. That standard is found in one Person, the Person of Jesus Christ
who did not sin. He could have sinned, but He chose not to sin. If He
would have sinned His blood on the cross would have been bled needlessly.
But Jesus did not die needlessly for He was without sin and His blood
became our atonement.
God's standard in our life is to be like Jesus. In our attitude,
