Nehemiah 6:1-19
Jerry Vines
We have in verses 15 and 16 of this chapter a great statement of
victory. The wall was finished and they said it couldn't be done. Yet,
it was done and done in a miraculous way. In 52 days the wall was
repaired and God did a tremendous job. The Bible says in these two
verses that even the enemies around were aware of the fact that the work
was done and they were much cast down, that is, they were down in the
dumps about the matter. They had come to the understanding that they
could not permanently hinder the work of God. They became aware that
this work was wrought of God.
If God is going to do anything in you life and in my life we
have to be willing to surrender to Him and allow Him to work in and
through us. In Philippians 1:6 the Bible says, "Being confident of this
very thing that he who hath begun a good work in us will complete it
until the day of Jesus Christ." God wants to work for us and in us in
order that He might work through us.
I have a feeling God has some great things He wants done and He
is looking for a group of people who are willing to allow Him to work
in and through them to bring it to pass.
In this chapter we have wrapped around these verses the
continuing efforts of the enemy to hinder the work of God. The devil
never, ever gives up. Remember when the Lord Jesus was tempted of the
devil in the wilderness temptation. The Bible says the "devil leaveth
him for a season." The devil was going to come back. Same thing is
true in your life and in my life. The devil will be constantly trying
to hinder us as we do the work of the Lord. The devil has a big bag of
tricks. There are all kinds of things the devil wants to pull out of
the bag and try to use to hinder you as you work for the Lord.
I want us to notice some of the efforts in this chapter that the
enemy used to try to keep this great victory from coming to pass.
