INTRODUCTION: The mark of the Beast. It is probably the best-known prophecy in all of the Bible. Virtually everyone, at one time or another, has heard of this prophecy which tells that in the last days no one will be able to buy or sell anything unless they get the "devil's mark." This mark, according to the Bible will be universal. The word "mark" has a specific meaning. In the original Greek the word is charagma. The unique word only appears in the last book of the Bible (Revelation 13:16,17; 14:9, 11; 15:2; 16:2; 19:20; and 20:4). The word is not symbolic but is very specific. It is translated "physical mark", or "insignia," "a scratch or etching."

1. There are many trends in technology leading us towards its fulfillment
2. It is one of the most powerful proofs possible for the accuracy of the prophetic word of God

1. In their anxiety to convince skeptics that this prophecy may soon come to pass many people have sensationalized the issue with unproven and undocumented stories
2. The mark of the Beast will not be enforced until the Beast "Antichrist" has a power base from which to operate
