Over 3000 years ago God gave us ten truths upon which we can build a fulfilling life, a strong family and a secure nation. They are called the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments are about the only thing that Jews, Muslims and Christians all agree on. All three religions believe the Ten Commandments came from God. The Ten Commandments are the bedrock of western civilization. In fact, they're the fount of our judicial and legal system. That's why I find it so ironic and baffling that the Ten Commandments are being taken out of courthouses and the public spaces because the courts that are ruling against them are ruling against the very thing that established them. You can take the Ten Commandments out of the public square, but you can't change the fact that the Ten Commandments are the only indestructible, unshakable foundation upon which you can build a solid life, family, and society. So for the next several weeks we're going to study the Ten Commandments to really learn how to get back to them, and a lot of people say: Well, I live by the Ten Commandments. I believe in the Ten Commandments. But, the real question is: Can you name them. How can you live by them if you can't name them? So I sent Pastor Darius out into Houston this last week to ask that question. Can you name the Ten Commandments, and here's what we got.
So here we are in the city, the heart of Houston, Texas, and we want to see how many people will know the Ten Commandments. Now, we're not sure what we're going to get, but we're going to go around, ask a couple of people off the street if they know them, and if they do, how many of them can they name. Let's see what we get.
Thou shall not steal.
Thou shall not commit adultery.
Thou shall not kill.
Thou shall not take the Lord's name in vain.
Something about loving thy neighbor the same way you love thy self.
Thou shall have no other Gods before me. Thou shall not steal. Thou shall not commit adultery. Thou shall not murder. Honor your father and mother. That's all I got.
Thou shall not continue. That's okay. We're going to ask a few other people and see what they got.
Thou shall not steal. Thou shall not lie. Thou shall not commit adultery. Oh Lord, have mercy.
