This sermon includes the sermon outline and the full sermon transcript. Below you will see a preview of the outline and a portion of the full sermon.

"So it is written: 'The first man Adam became a living being'; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven." 1 Corinthians 15:45, 47 (NIV)

"So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." Genesis 1:27 (NIV)

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment." Matthew 22:37, 38 (NIV)

The Problem: I'm broken and sinful

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23 (NIV)

The Practice: Surrender to Christ's forgiveness and Control

"We see, then, that as one act of sin exposed the whole race of men to God's judgment and condemnation, so one act of perfect righteousness presents all men freely acquitted in the sight of God. One man's disobedience placed all men under the threat of condemnation, but one man's obedience has the power to present all men righteous before God." Romans 5:18,19 (Ph)

Wow! I'm just so proud of these guys - for King and Country. Amazing. What a great message to women on Mother's Day, the truth about who you are. And they're going to sing for us again after the message, but we're in this series we're calling Firsthand. It's all about ditching secondhand religion for a firsthand relationship with God that's deep and authentic and life changing.

But, you can't really have a firsthand relationship with God until you first discover your firsthand purpose. And so what I want to do is sort of go back to the first person, Adam, because we can learn so much about our purpose by looking at the first person that God created. In fact when we look at Adam, we can answer the two greatest questions in life. The first one is: Is there a purpose in life? And the second is: If there is a purpose, then what is my purpose in this life? And so what I want to do is sort of go first person so that you can listen to the voice of the first person, Adam, and we can discover our firsthand purpose in life.

As the original first person that God created, I just want to say it is great to be among family today. See, whether you like it or not, we're all related, and that all started with me. The human race is just one big family. Some of you always dread the holidays because you have to see that weird relative that you only have to see once a year that just annoys you and gets under your skin, and maybe it's a crazy uncle or maybe it's an obnoxious cousin.
