The Serenity Prayer
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
We are in a series that I'm calling "Ripple Effect", because every action you take on this earth, even the smallest, causes a ripple effect that echoes into eternity, and I'm so grateful that what you do here at Woodlands Church causes a ripple that is echoing around the word. In fact, we were contacted a couple of months ago by Armed Forces Television Network, and they said they saw the broadcast of our services and really loved it, and the head of Armed Forces Television Network asked us if we would like to broadcast our services on Armed Forces Television, and we said "well sure", and this week I just got this e-mail from the head of Armed Forces Television Network. It says: "Over 1 million troops and their families stationed in 175 countries now have access to Woodlands Church services every Sunday morning on the Armed Forces Television Network". So what I want us to do is to give us a warm welcome to our international television audience (applause), especially the Armed Forces Radio and Television Network (applause). Yeah! And I want to say to those of you who are in Afghanistan or Iraq watching the broadcast, or maybe you are here in the states but getting ready to be deployed to Afghanistan, we just want to say we are praying for you. We are so proud of you. You are on the front lines of the battle for freedom so that we can be here worshipping in the freedom of worship, so just know that we love you, and we are with you, and we are praying for you (applause).
I am so grateful for the ripple effect that you are causing around the world, but what I want to talk about today is another battle that is raging in all of our lives. It's the battle for peace of mind and heart, because most people in this world are not at peace with themselves, and there is a ripple of fear and anxiety and worry that is spreading across the world, and there are a lot of things that seem to rob us of our peace. The first is we battle with circumstances that are uncontrollable. When we can't control our circumstances, we lose our peace of mind and heart, and most of life is out of our control. There are even little things that we cannot control.
