1. Express My Questions
Do you ever feel like you are on a tightrope in life? I mean, you are out there in the middle, walking the tightrope, no margin for error and no new below. Or maybe you feel like you are a tightrope in life, that you are living in the tension, being pulled from two opposite directions. Maybe you are living in the tension between faith and fear. I mean one moment you are just full of faith and you really believe God is going to come through for you, and in the next moment you are overwhelmed by fear and you feel like it is all going to come crashing down. Or maybe you are living in the tension between peace and anxiety where one minute you are calm and you are confident, and the next moment you look down and your mind starts racing with uncontrolled worry. Or maybe you are living in the tension between strength and weakness. I mean one day you feel like you can take on the world, and the next day you feel weak and completely powerless and your knees start to buckle on the tightrope of life. Or maybe you feel like you are right there in the middle of the tension between certainty and uncertainty, and on Sundays you are certain beyond a shadow of a doubt that God is going to meet your needs, but on other days you are not sure of anything...even God's existence. Living in the tension. Living in the middle of the tightrope, being pulled from two directions. Folks, that's life! We are in this series that I am calling tightrope, and I am making the argument that living in the tension is where we experience God the most, and it's where we grow the most in life.
Today we have a very special guest, Alida Wallenda. Alida is a member of the world's most famous tightrope-walking family, The Flying Wallendas. In fact, Alida is the great-granddaughter of Carl Wallenda, The Great Wallenda himself. Alida and her family are in the Guinness Book of World Records performing and 8-person pyramid on the tightrope. So would you give a warm welcome to Alida Wallenda.
Alida, we are so glad you are here.
It's great to be here.
Now when did you get started on the tightrope? Being a Wallenda, it had to be early.
Well, yeah...obviously. I was born into that family and a great heritage that has spanned over 200 years. I'm the seventh generation of that family, and when I was about 8 years old my Dad invited me up and asked me if I wanted to try it, and I said, "of course".
