Now join me today in the New Testament book of Colossians … chapter 1 … as we continue in our series of messages under the heading:
THE GOD ISSUE
What a person believes about God, will determine how a person behaves. There is no right and wrong the moment God is removed from the equation. The father of our country, George Washington, got it right when he said, "It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible."
Our first president knew that the basis of morality is God, specifically, the God of the Bible. And without Him, only moral chaos remains. And if you want to know what the moral fiber of a nation looks like having left God out, just look across America today.
I would have never thought ten years ago that Chic-Filet would be under attack for their leadership stating that marriage is between a man and a woman. It makes me want to eat more chicken!
I would have never thought ten years ago that the Democratic Party would consider including "same-sex marriage" as a part of their national platform.
But again, same-sex marriage is not the issue, God is the issue. Our moral collapse is not the critical issue. It's simply a symptom of a greater issue. The greater issue is the God issue! Trying to restore biblical values in our nation without restoring the foundation of those values is like the man who built his house on a foundation of sand. Debating behavior is a losing proposition without making God the watershed issue of life.
The early church made Jesus the watershed issue wherever they went. No wonder we hear Paul saying in Colossians 1.19, speaking of Jesus, "that in all things He may have the preeminence." That is, in all things, Jesus may have first place, Jesus may be above all else. When Jesus becomes above all else in a person's life, the moral choices of their ...
