Let's turn to Acts 27 before I get into more trouble than I can get out of. Acts 27:9. I want to preach a message called, "Overcoming Storms", Acts Chapter 27, we're going to read Verses 9-11 and then we will go to Verse 20 and just keep your Bible open to these passages because we are going to stay primarily in Acts Chapter 27; we will not go from Genesis to Revelation like I did this morning; we'll stay right here.
Overcoming Storms - do you know anything about storms -storms in your marriage or storms in your business life, storms in your financial affairs, storms in the life of God's people?
Well Verse 9 says, "NOW WHEN MUCH TIME WAS SPENT, AND WHEN SAILING WAS NOW DANGEROUS, BECAUSE THE FAST WAS NOW ALREADY PAST, PAUL ADMONISHED THEM, AND SAID UNTO THEM, SIRS, I PERCEIVE THAT THIS VOYAGE WILL BE WITH HURT AND MUCH DAMAGE, NOT ONLY OF THE LADING AND SHIP, BUT ALSO OF OUR LIVES.
NEVERTHELESS THE CENTURION BELIEVED THE MASTER AND THE OWNER OF THE SHIP, MORE THAN THOSE THINGS WHICH WERE SPOKEN BY PAUL. Paul you know was going to Rome; he was on board of this ship as a prisoner and he advised the ship's captain, the ship's owner, not to sail because God had given him a message that if they sailed at this particular time that they would immediately run into a vicious storm.
However, they did not listen to the man of God and so notice in Verse 20 how severe this storm became. " AND WHEN NEITHER SUN NOR STARS IN MANY DAYS APPEARED, AND NO SMALL TEMPEST LAY ON US, ALL HOPE THAT WE SHOULD BE SAVED WAS THEN TAKEN AWAY."
Now that's a great storm. When you look at a storm and there's no hope and everything is dark and there is absolutely no way out and you see absolutely no encouragement then you know that you are in a very dark storm
