(A) Why He Stood
(B) Where He Stayed

WE DO KNOW THAT HE IS THE SON OF ZACHARIAS AND ELIZABETH. HE CERTAINLY HAD A GODLY HERITAGE.

HE SHOUTED SIX MONTHS BEFORE HE WAS EVER BORN AND MOST BAPTIST HADN'T SHOUTED SINCE THEY WERE BORN.

JOHN THE BAPTIST NEVER WROTE A BOOK, BUT WHAT THIS BOOK SAYS ABOUT HIM SHOULD STIR OUR HEARTS.

THERE IS NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, JOHN WAS A GREAT MAN, NOT BECAUSE HIS FRIENDS SAID SO, NOT BECAUSE HIS FAMILY SAID SO BUT BECAUSE THE LORD HIMSELF SAID SO,

(MATTHEW 11:11)
"VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, AMONG THEM THAT ARE BORN OF WOMEN THERE HATH NOT RISEN A GREATER THAN JOHN THE BAPTIST."

WHAT A COMMENDATION! THE GREATEST EVER BORN!

THE WORD "VERILY" OFTEN TRANSLATED "AMEN". JESUS SAID AMEN! JOHN IS THE GREATEST BORN OF A WOMEN. JOHN HAD NO EQUAL.

"RISEN" WAS OFTEN USED OF PROPHETS WHO HAD BEEN RAISED UP TO DECLARE GOD'S WORD. JESUS SAID HE WAS THE GREATEST OF ALL THE PROPHETS.

IT WAS JESUS THAT DEFINED JOHN AS GREAT. IT WAS NOT HIS POPULARITY OR HIS POWER THAT MADE HIM GREAT. HIS GREATNESS LAY IN THE KIND OF MAN HE WAS.

A.W. TOZER SAID, "TRUE GREATNESS LIES IN CHARACTER, NOT IN ABILITY OR POSITION."

(HIS CLOTHING)

NO DOUBT HIS CLOTHES WERE FAR FROM BEING COMFORTABLE OR FASHIONABLE. VERY COURSE AND ROUGH. BEEN FEEDING ON LOCUST AND WILD HONEY.

A) A CONVICTING Message

(3: 2-6)
"2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven ...
