Word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but
By My Spirit says the Lord of Hosts. Who are you, O great mountain?
Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth
the capstone with shouts of 'Grace, grace to it!'"

A. The Reasons For Being Filled With The Spirit
B. The Requirements For Being Filled With The Spirit
C. The Results of Being Filled With The Spirit

Following fifty years of oppressing exile in a foreign land, King Cyrus of
Persia announced that he would allow many of the people of Judah to
return to their native land. Ezra, the dpriest tells us that there were some

50,000 people who with their possessions made the long journey from
Babylon to Jerusalem. Upon returning they found that there was not much
left in people or resources. The city of Jerusalem was an ash heap. The
beloved temple had been completely destroyed. The ancient enemies of

Israel, the Edomites, the Moabites, and Ammonites had taken over their
beloved homeland. This was the discouraging situation which the company
of people under the leadership of Zerubbabrel as they came home again.

Twenty years after their return the temple of God had still not been rebuilt.
The people were discouraged and downcast, and at this critical moment God
raised up Haggai and Zechariah to encourage the Jew to immediately begin
building the house of God.

I have an idea that all 50,000 people had their own idea about how the
temple might be restored. If these had been Baptist people I have no doubt
there would have been 50,000 different ideas. But in the midst of the failure

and confusion God spoke to the prophet Zechariah through a series of visions.
In the midst of these visions God gave the prophet a principle that applies
to the life of the church and to your own personal life today. If you have

a mountain that confronts you that stands between you and what you want
to be for God today? If you have a mountain of financial stress or a mountain
of a marriage that is not working or a mountain of a long standing resentment

toward someone in your past, this message is for you. You see Zechariah
had a mountain of difficulty in front of him that kept him from doing what
God had commanded him to do. So God gave him and us this great
principle. It's not by our might or by our power but by God's spirit that

our mountain will be removed. The difficulty today is that we try to
operate our church and our persona life in our own strength and when we
do that we fail every time.
