Today we come to chapter 3 in our study of the book of 1st Thessalonians under the heading: LIVING WHILE LOOKING UP. Knowing that Jesus is coming again .. Paul reminds us in all five chapters of 1st Thessalonians not only that we are to be LIVING WHILE LOOKING UP ... but what's involved in our LIVING WHILE LOOKING UP.
Don't be like those two ladies who came up to me last Sunday night after worship and said, "Pastor, we've spent all afternoon doing exactly what you've been encouraging us to do." I said, "And what's that?" They said, "We've spent all afternoon LIVING WHILE LOOKING UP. We've been to the air show and watched as the Blue Angels did some amazing things up in the sky."
Well .. I suppose that's progress. Dr. W. A. Criswell, who pastored FBC Dallas, Texas for 50 years said this about LIVING WHILE LOOKING UP: "What God wills for His children through all the church age is that we be watchful and waiting and prayerful and expectant. It could be today." Listen to the words of Jesus in Matthew 16.27, "For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each, according to his works." Matthew 24.27, "For as the lightening comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be."
The Bible teaches that Jesus is coming again and God's given us the book of 1st Thessalonians to help us get ready and stay ready. Jesus tells us in Matthew 24.44 to, "be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."
