You should be grateful for the New Testament book of 1st Thessalonians and I'll tell you why! Not only does it tell you in every chapter that one of the days Jesus is coming again ... it helps you get ready and stay ready. And I pray that God is using this study to help you learn more about LIVING WHILE LOOKING UP.
I want for you what Paul wanted for the church members in the church at Thessalonica: for your faith to be growing deeper ... for your trust in God to be growing deeper .. for your understanding of the Word of God to be growing deeper ... for your hunger for holiness to be growing deeper .. for your burden for the lost to be growing deeper.
And to help you get there .. God has established this local fellowship of believers called Roswell Street Baptist Church. Following Jesus includes BELONGING .. not just BELIEVING. Again .. the only Christians in the New Testament that were not members of a local fellowship were those who had been removed from the fellowship because of public sin.
Paul tells us in Ephesians 2.19 that we are now ".... Fellow citizens of the household of God." Church membership is more than having your name added to a roll with no requirements or expectations. Being a member of the church means being an interconnected part of the body of Christ. The church is not a building .. it's a body .. the body of Christ! That's why you need a church family! That's why you need a church home!
And as we're going to see again today from this 3rd chapter of 1 Thessalonians: being a member here carries with it some great blessings and benefits. You say, "Well, I can be a Christian and not be a part of a church." Where did you come up with that? You didn't get that from the Bible. In fact .. the Bible teaches just the opposite.
