Has God Messed Up Your Christmas Plans?
Luke 1: 26-34
I picked up a story the other day about a man who was working on his motorcycle on his patio. His wife was in the house working in the kitchen. As this guy was adjusting something on the engine of his motorcycle, it fell off the stands it was on, dragging him through the glass patio door and finally dumping him on the floor of the dining room. The wife, hearing the crash ran into the room and found her husband, lying on the floor, cut and bleeding from his entrance through the glass door. She ran to the phone and called 911 and summoned the paramedics. Because they lived on a fairly large hill, the wife went down the several flights of long steps to the street to direct the paramedics to her husband. After the ambulance arrived and transported the husband to the hospital, the wife up-righted the motorcycle and pushed it outside. Seeing that gas had spilled on the floor, the wife got some paper towels, blotted up the gasoline, and threw the paper towels into the toilet.
Well, the husband was treated at the hospital and was released to come home. After arriving home, he looked at the shattered patio door and the damage done to his motorcycle. He became so depressed and despondent he went into the bathroom, sat on the toilet and began to smoke a cigarette. After finishing his cigarette, he flipped it into the toilet bowl while still seated! The wife, who was back in the kitchen again, heard a loud explosion and her husband screaming. She ran into the bathroom, found her husband lying on the floor. His pants had been blown off and he was suffering from severe burns to his…strategic parts as well as the backs of his legs and groin. The wife ran again to the phone and called for the paramedics to come back.
The same ambulance crew responded and his wife met them on the street. The paramedics loaded the husband onto a stretcher and began carrying him down the long flights of stairs to the street. While they were carrying the husband down, one of the paramedics asked the wife how her husband burned himself. She told them and the paramedics started laughing so hard one of them tipped the stretcher over, dumping the husband out. He fell down the stairs and broke his ankle.
Have you ever had a day like that? Some of you probably feel as though you have had a year like that! There are lots of us these days that as a result of the economy feel like every plan that we might have had has been totally messed up.
I read the other day about a mother who took her son to visit Santa at the mall. When she got there she discovered that Santa was her ex-husband who had not been paying his child support. Three hours later, she came back to the mall with a court injunction and slapped it on him! I am pretty sure that messed up his plans and I am even more sure that he did not say, "Ho, Ho, Ho!"
There a couple of realities of Christmas that we need to understand - there is some bad ne ...
