I want you to turn to 1 Corinthians 13 for our study. Today we
continue our series on DESPERATE HOUSEHOLDS and we are
speaking today about "Desperate Marriages." Do you know anybody
whose marriage is desperate right now?
If you were to survey most of the people in this room about their marriages, almost everyone would admit that their marriage has not turned out exactly as they thought it would. At various degrees, level,
there would be some that would say it is not all that I expected it to be. I am disappointed in how my marriage has turned out. If people really shared from their heart of hearts, they would say that in their
and yet God's plan for marriage is that our marriage be characterized by unity, harmony, and intimacy. That is what we are working for as we look at this passage of scripture.
Ephesians 4:3 "Make every effort to keep the unity of the spirit." When you apply that to our homes and to our families, notice the word, effort. To have a good marriage it takes effort, it takes work,
and it takes attention. Good marriages don't just happen automatically because the two "right" people get together. Good marriages are built and your marriage and your family is something
worth your time and the rewards are far greater than any work you might have to put into your marriage. So today I want to speak on "Six Secrets of a Satisfying Marriage." I know that in some of your
jobs you have an annual performance review. You are evaluated as to how you perform. In our finances we always have an evaluation at income tax time, or at some other time whatever our fiscal year may
be. Most people have an annual physical to see how they are doing physically. But most people very rarely check up on their marriage to see how they are doing in their marriage.
