JOY FOR THE JOURNEY

We are continuing our study tonight of the New Testament book of Philippians. So .. I hope that you have your Bible and notepad with you and that you're ready to hear from God.
Now if you can sum up the book of Philippians in one word .. what one word would you use? JOY! And what a needed word that is for us today. JOY! If there is one word that should describe a believer .. a Christian .. a child of God ... it is JOY!
It's been said that "joy is the flag that flies above the castle of your heart announcing that the King is in residence." And I pray God that your flag is flying high these days letting our community know that real joy .. continual joy .. lasting joy is found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
You see .. JOY is a mark of Jesus in your life. Ezra 6.22, "... for the LORD made them joyful." And if you go back and read the context of that verse .. you'll find it describing the children of Israel who had returned from captivity and "separated themselves from verse 21, filth of the nations of the land in order to seek the LORD GOD of Israel."
Joy is always linked with purity. Joy is always linked to separation and in the case of Ezra .. from the "filth of the nations of the land in order to seek the LORD GOD of Israel."
Oh that it would be said of us, ".. for the LORD made them joyful." That as people walk out of this building on Sundays that they would say, ".. for the LORD made them joyful." For "joy is the flag that flies above the castle of your heart announcing that the King is in residence."
Now so far in our study .. Paul has greeted them and told them how and what he had been praying for them about. That was last Sunday night. Now tonight as we come to chapter 1.12 ... Paul is going to state very clearly his God-given passion and priority of advancing the gospel.
