(A) Series... THE PRACTICE OF PERSONAL PEACE ...
... Few people today really have peace of mind! ...
Phil. 4:6-7 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
1- ... I.E. ... Personal peace only comes through the Practice of Prayer.
2- You can either PRAY or WORRY ... So how do we pray to ensure that we have peace?
3- Jesus gave us a pattern to show us how to pray ... we call it The Lord’s Prayer ... really, the pattern or model prayer!
4- This prayer consists of 8 phrases ... each phrase addresses a different need that we have that must be dealt with if we are going to have peace within us!
a- THE NEED TO BELONG ... so we pray... "Our Father in heaven"
b- THE NEED TO RESPECT or WORSHIP GOD ... so we pray... "Hallowed be Your name."
c- THE NEED FOR SUBMISSION (to God) ... so we pray..."Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." ...
d- THE NEED FOR TRUST (of God) ... so we pray... "Give us this day our daily bread"
e- THE NEED FOR FORGIVENESS (from God) ... so we pray... "And forgive us our
f- THE NEED FOR FREEDOM ...so we pray ... "as we forgive our debtors"
g- THE NEED FOR SAFETY (from Temptation) ... so we pray ... "... and do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one ..."
h- Finally .... Jesus wraps up this pattern prayer by reminding us who the source of our contentment is ...
* Ultimately, when we pray ... which is the practice that brings us peace of mind... or contentment ... we must remember that peace of contentment does not come to us because of the eloquence or ability that w ...
