Philippians 3:20-21

INTRO:
(A) Series .... Strength For the Journey (of Life) .... Book of Philippians.
1- Book of JOY .... from this joy .... we get strength for our journey.
2- Paul has already told us that life is like a race .... Vs. 12 and Vs. 14.
a- But, in this race, we are headed somewhere .... we have a destination.
b- We are on a journey .... Paul never loses sight of that in spite of the fact that he is under house arrest in Rome as he writes this letter .... He is restricted in where he can go and in what he can do.
c- For Paul.... it is a journey of joy .... a journey of the heart growing out of his personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
d- It is the same joy that brought Paul (and those of us who know Jesus): .... Our Purpose in Life (Ch.1) .... Our Pattern for Life (Ch. 2) .... and Our Passion in Life (Ch. 3).
3- Ch. 3:14 "I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
a- The key verse that expresses Paul's great passion.
b- He is pressing "toward the goal of the prize ..." What is that prize? .... to be like Jesus.
.... which ultimately occurs when we arrive at our destination.
c- Paul's greatest passion is arriving at his destination.
d- .... we looked at choosing your path in the Journey of Life .... today -- we look at your destination .... where you are headed.



-- Young boy .... Saturday .... my job was to cut the grass .... paid 50¢ for front yard .... and 50¢ for back yard .... get on bike .... meet my buddies at Shealey's Horse Barn .... cost $1.00 to ride horse for 1 hour .... we'd ride.
-- Follow trail through peach orchards .... across pasture .... go out 45 minutes .... then we'd turn the horses and head back to the barn.
-- Didn't turn them until you were ready to head back -- we small boys couldn't t ...
