The only way to enter God's spiritual family is by a spiritual birth, through faith in Jesus Christ. This is the truth Jesus spoke to Nicodemus.

John 3:3, "Jesus answered and said to him, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.'"

John 3:5, "Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God."

"born again" – literally means born from above. Jesus answered a question that Nicodemus does not even ask. He read Nicodemus' heart and came to the core of his problem; for example, the need for spiritual transformation or regeneration produced by the Holy Spirit. The new birth is an act of God whereby eternal life is imparted to the believer. Based on John 1:12-13, the scripture indicates that "born again" also carries the idea "to become children of God" through trust in the name of the incarnate Word.

Robert Ellis wrote a song (in addition to the pageant script) entitled, "Born Again." Gerald Hill put music to it and Tony Johnson arranged it.

"BORN AGAIN"

How could this be?
Such strange new words
He's told me things I've never heard
Born again
No other man has come to speak of such a plan.
To taste of life with senses strong
Free from fear of where I belong,

Born again
The words are strange
But even now I feel a change.

Born again
How could this be?
A brand new life, a brand new me.
My old life changed
Old sins are gone - A new life soon,
A new day dawned when you're born again.

A longing deep within my heart
Tells me this man is set apart,
To lead us all to life anew
To rescue us from debts now due.
This one has solved the mystery,
A question old as history
The missing piece that all have sought
The final answer He has brought."
