The Woman That Turned the Face by Rex Yancey

Mark 5:25-34
By Rex Yancey

What was it about this woman that turned the face of Jesus? One thing it was not was her riches. The Bible says that she had spent all she had on physicians. It did not do her any good, however. It is pretty obvious that this woman needed a hysterectomy. However, medical advances were not then what they are now. Therefore, she was in very serious condition.

It was also not her reputation that turned the face of Jesus. This woman was considered unclean and rejected by those who would come in contact with her. She was religiously unclean and ceremonially unclean. People knew about her and would avoid her whenever possible.

We know that it was not her religion that turned the face of Jesus. Religion is the heavenly way to go to hell. Religion is what man can do for God. This woman could not do anything for him. Her religion was helpless to cure her of this disease.

We know that it was not her refinement that turned the face of Jesus. She said nothing about turning over a new leaf. There are plenty who think reformation is the way to go as far as getting right with God is concerned. There are wrong.

The book of Ephesians tells us "That salvation is by grace through faith." So it was the woman's uncanny belief that if she touched the helm of this priest's garment she would be healed. Her illness played out in the presence of Jesus on this particular day.

I want us to take a closer look at this woman today and compare her problem with our problem.
