Romans 12:2-6

Introduction:
Have you ever noticed when a person dies prematurely people often say "What a waste!"
Why is that? It is because they never reached their full potential.
Their lives were cut short before they could develop their gifts.
How many lives are wasted today because people have never developed their full potential.

Today is Pentecost Sunday!
This is a day that we celebrate the Gifts of God given to us.
I am not speaking today about the Gift of Tongues and interpretation of tongues or what we call the spiritual gifts but rather I am speaking about all gifting by the Holy Spirit.

There are three major potions of scripture that talk about gifting.
Romans 12 our text
7 motivational gifts of God
service
administration
giving
encouragement
leadership
1 Corinthians 12
9 spiritual gifts
tongues
prophecy
discernment
miracles
healings
Ephesians 4
5 ministry gifts

There are many other gifts
Paul spoke about some of God's giftedness this way in:
Eph 4:8-12
8 This is why it says: "When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men."
11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers,
12 to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up(NIV)

The world honors gifted people!
We put them on pedestals and idolize them!
We wish we could be like them!
Gifted sports stars, gifted speakers, movie stars, leaders, TV personalities, inventors, scientists etc.
In fact the world calls these people gifted!
Due to the spotlight on these gifted people it taints the rest of our thinking.

It is world's attitude regarding giftedness that has caused us to formulate our own thought patterns regarding the subject.
