A December 12, 2003 article from the Associated Press contained the headline: "God Is Back in 'God Bless the USA.'" The story was about the Pacifica High School in Oxnard, California. In the finale of a school program, a 200 voice choir was to sing Lee Greenwood's patriotic anthem "God Bless the USA." However, the program's directors, fearing that using the name "God" might cause a problem or be a violation of separation of church and state, decided to change the words from "God bless the USA" to "I love the USA." What they did not expect was the reaction and response they got from many of the parents.

When parents found out about the change, they made their anger known to school officials. Some withdrew their children from the program, while others wrote protesting e-mails to the school board and district leaders. For fear of a lawsuit, the school reversed its decision. The Associated Press articled stated, "Angry parents got "God" put back in Lee Greenwood's patriotic anthem 'God Bless the USA.'" School board President Ron Speakman said, "It was a misguided attempt to be politically correct, and it has been rectified."

First, let me say "Hurray" to the parents that stood up to the screwed-up thinking and policies of the officials at Pacifica High School. We need more people in this country that will stand up to some of the foolish and misguided things that are going on in this country in the name of political correctness and separation of church and state.

Secondly, if there is anything we need it is to put God back in our schoolhouses, courthouses, government and our public and national life. It would be a great and glorious day if God was put back in the USA.

At the outset let say that I couldn't care a hill of beans about what is politically correct. That which we should be most concerned about is being Biblically correct. The last thing that concerns me is what the Republicans or Democrats have to say about things. It is what God has to say about things that should be first and foremost.

In Psalm 85 we are reminded of the greatest need we have in America. I do not use the word "greatest" lightly but intentionally and with purpose. As a nation we have many needs, but there is none greater than the subject of the Psalm before us. Our greatest need is for God to bless the USA.

Let's look at the Psalm and notice certain truths communicated by the Psalm and apply them to our need as a nation. First, think with me of:

1. THE APPRECIATION WE SHOULD DISPLAY AS AMERICANS

In verse 1 the Psalmist says, "LORD, thou hast been favourable unto thy lan ...
