The Futility Of Religion by Ronnie Floyd

"THE FUTILITY OF RELIGION"
Acts 10:1-11:18

INTRODUCTION: What is religion? A set of beliefs that at-
tempt to help us understand our Creator. Religion is man-
made. Its rules and regulations many time neglect the im-
portance of mercy, truth, and love. At times religion is
useless. A lot of smoke, no fire, a lot of form, no substance.
T.S: In this text the Jews were not associating with the
Gentile world . The Jews felt the Gentiles where ceremonially
defiled. BUT GOD had to get the gospel to the gentile world.
The account in Acts 10-11 gives to us what happended.
1. THE VACUUM OF RELIGION.(10:1-9:11:13-14)
(10:1-3) Cornelius-a gentile, devout man, feared God, gave
alms or offerings, had a super prayer life, and

(10:4-8; 11:13-14) Angel appeared to him and revealed the
graciousness of God and pointed out his need for
Peter to come and tell him how to be saved.

2. THE VISION OF THE CHURCH.(11:4-14)
Exp: (11:5-10) Peter recounts his experience of his
trance.
(11:11) Cornelius' men arrived requesting me to
go to Ceasarea.
(11:12-14) Cornelius shared with Peter his experi-
ences.
Ill: Existing prejudice between Jews and Gentiles.
Exp: God speaks emphatically concerning the prejudices.
(10:28; 11:9: 11:12)
OH THE VISION OF PETER AND THE CHURCH, HIS BRETHREN.

App: How broad is your vision? What are our prejudices? The
gospel is For everyomne.The 'blac'sK, vietnam-ese, hispanics,
and lower anglo income. The love of Jesus breaks all
economics, social, and nationality lines.
Our attitude must be two fold:
1. The gospel is for everyone
