The Spirit-controlled Life by Ronnie Floyd

"The Spirit-Controlled Life"
Ephesians 5:14-21

Introduction: J.C. has an exciting and fulfilling life for
every Christian. Christians cannot be fulfilled and live in
Christian victory until we learn that we are to be filled with
God's Spirit.
T.S.: Jn. 16:13-14; Lk. 24:49; Acts 1:8; 2:38; Eph. 5
1. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT? (18)
Exp: Gr.-"plapow"-to be made complete, made whole!
To abound in God's Spirit or to be taken up with HS.
To be controlled or to live under Spirit's rule!
Ill: The ??? is not how much of the Holy Spirit you have
but how much does the H.S. have of you?
He wants to control, master, lord, possessed you!
App: If a Christian does not want the Spirit to control
him, then his way will be carnal and he will fulfill
the desires of the flesh!
2. IS IT A COMMANDMENT TO BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT?(18)
Exp: Yes, it is a commandment! It is as great a sin
to be drunk with wine as it is to not be filled
with the H.S.
Ill: Wine: Controlling agent and makes one under an
influence! J.C. says let the Spirit control you!
App: Zech. 4:6 "but by my Spirit"
Rom. 8:6 "Mind set on the Spirit is life and peace!"
Rom. 8:8 "you cannot please God in the flesh!"
*To not be filled or controlled by the Spirit is to
choose death over life and emptiness over meaning!
3. HOW DO WE RECEIVE THE FILLING OF THE SPIRIT?
Exp: This word be filled is a present tense continuous
action verb! There is an initial filling and then
a continuous action is needed!
*Translations: a. "always being filled"
b. "ever be filled"
Luke 11:13 "If you then, being evil, know how to
give good gifts to your children, how much more
shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit
to those who ask him?"
*Jesus says if you want my Spirit, ask me!
