Deacons: The Influential Servants- Part I by Ronnie Floyd

"DEACONS: THE INFLUENTIAL SERVANTS"
Acts 6:3-5; 8:1-5, 9-13, 25, 27a, 35, 37-40

Introduction: I could preach to you today on the "knit-
picky" qualifications of a deacon that most of us think
to be very important. Controversial issues such as, Can
a deacon be divorced, can a deacon drink alcoholic bever-
ages, can deacons wives talk alot and cause trouble with-
in the body of Christ? Anser these!
I want to preach today on something that will outweigh
those things by far. Deacons are to be influential
servants--Big problem today we have strayed from holy
Scripture and make it a political position! Wrong!
*Diakonos-Servant! That is what a deacon is literally

1. YOU WILL ALLOT TIME TO SPEND WITH THE LORD YOUR GOD.

Exp: All of the qualifications were in Philips life
because he spent time with God. He had a good

spent time with God.
Ill: Spent one hour a day with God--Peter Lord
App: Days are better and direction is clearer when
I spend time with God. If a deacon does not
spend daily time with God who in the church
will? Your life will bear fruit of the posi-
tive nature of God if you spend time with God.
2. YOU WILL ADJUST TO THE PLANS OF GOD.(4,5,26,29,39)
Exp: Philip adjusted when persecution came and he
went about everywhere preaching Christ.
Everyone else in verse 25 was going back to
Jerusalem and God told him to go to Gaza.
Got in the chariot with Ethiopian in v. 29.
God moved him from the Ethiopian and put him
in AZOTUS in verse 39.
*NOTICE: Everytime the Spirit moved him he
adjusted to the plans of God.
Ill: Deacons should be people sensitive to the
spirit of God-flexible understanding that
God may continually move him in different
directions so God can be glorified!

App: Notice that Philip did not say, "Lord we
have never done it this way before." Why
