The National Institute of Mental Health calls anxiety, which is fear
and/or worry, the number 1 health problem in the U. S. These
anxieties include phobias, compulsive behavior and panic attacks
with heart palpitations, feelings of suffocation and other symptoms.
Phobias or chronic fears are such a problem in America that just
recently 20/20 brought a special on phobias. Thousands of persons
afraid of this or afraid of that!
Is it okay to fear according to the Bible?
T. S. The word "fear" is used many times in the Bible. We are not
speaking today of how we should fear the Lord, meaning that
we should reverence or awe Him. We are addressing today the
subject of fear that is an obsessive fright that sets us in
bondage, not allowing us to experience the fullness of Jesus
1. Greek word for fear is "phobos" which is where we get our word
phobia. "Phobos" means dread or terror.

4. Matthew 10:24-28 - "Therefore, do not fear"
5. Proverbs 29:25 - "Fear of man bring a snare."

7. Psalm 56:4 - "I shall not be afraid."
8. Psalm 118:6 - "The Lord is for me."
9. Psalm 23:4 - "I fear no evil; for Thou art with me."
10. Hebrews 13:6 - "The Lord is my Helper."
11. 2 Timothy 1:7 - "For God has not given us a spirit for fear."
