Jonah 3:1-10
Introduction: If you want to know where someone is you must
know their heart. The outward, external manisfestations of
someone's personlity will not tell totally who they are.
You must know their heart.
This evening I want to preach on "The Heart
of the Matter." What is the heart of the matter in
this text of Jonah 3:-1-10?
I. THE HEAIU OF GOD.(3:l-2)
Exp: God loves us enough to speak to us.(l)
God loves us to speak to us a second time.(l)
App: Our God is long-suffering. He is a God who
supplies us with a second chance.
Exp: Jonah the prophet had been disobedient--God placed
him in Whale Seminary for three days and nights.
Then God gave him another chance.
App: Folks, don't give us when you blow it! God offers
you another chance.
Quiet time?
Witnessing?
Close Relationships?
Ill: Children of Israel were great examples of God
giving them a second, third, etc... chance!
2. THE HEART OF THE PMDPH=r.(3:3-4)
Exp: When God gave him another chance and spoke to him
he was obedient to God.(3)
The Assyrian capital was a very large city. It
was a three day's walk to get through the entire
city. (3-4)
On his first day he cried out through his journey
for Ninevah to repent!
App: What was the heart of the prophet like? God!
1. Obedient
2. Wi11ing
-God's prophet's in our land today must be like
God's. We muist have a love for people, for God's
Word, and for God's will to be done ultimately!

3. THE HEART OF THE PEOPLE.(5-9)
Exp: 'Believeid in God"-(5) Hebrew word is "aman" The
word amen is derived from it. The meaning is to
be firm or sure!
"Fast"(5) Entire abstinence from all food till
evening.
"sackcloth"(5) haircloth was a harsh garnent, ir-
ritating, and afflictive to the body.
J< signates Sacrifice!
(6) The King participated in the entire experi-
ence.
(7) Even the beasts beasts even eat or drink.
(8) All encouraged to be covered with sackcloth
Call on God earnestly!
