INTRODUCTION:
One of the most expressive relationships in all of the Bible is the relationship of the Shepherd
and His sheep.
UNDERSTANDING SHEEP:
Sheep are: Defenseless
Helpless
Lost without leadership
ILLUSTRATION:
Church without the leadership of a Pastor
The reason the Shepherd is so significant is that He can meet the greatest needs of the sheep.
I. THE BIBLICAL UNDERSTANDING OF JEHOVAH-ROHI:
Psalm 23:1 "Jehovah is my Shepherd" (American Revised Standard)
* Means "to feed or lead, to pastor as a shepherd does his flock" (The meeter of
our needs)
* Means companion or friend which indicates the sharing of life, shelter or food.
(Provider as an intimate friend would provide)
Shepherd is used around 80 times in the Bible and is translated as friend, pastor,
herdsman, shepherd, feeder, companion.
