"THE THRILL OF VICTORY AND THE AGONY OF DEFEAT"
Part 2
Joshua 7:1-26
INTRODUTION: Review Sunday morning message on victory: The agony of defeat is determined
by the amount of work you put into winning. (I do not like to lose). God wants us to
experience spiritual victory.
T.S. Why spiritual defeat many times in our lives!?
1. SPIRITUAL DEFEAT OCCURS WHEN YOU BREAK THE LAWS OF GOD.(7:1)
Exp: (6:18-19) The ban was placed-the boundaries were given.
(7:1) "acted unfaithfully to things under the ban"-they broke the law
"took"=stole some things (God's anger burned against all of Israel)

line with his will! If no laws exist the sanctity and quality of all life will

Ill: Pastor and law of gravity
App: When I do things God tells me not to do than I have broken the law! I lose my

Story says that they ran from the warriors at Ai.
Ill: Football team--9-0 record , lose to some lesser team because of pride
App: Your walking with God doing great--some little thing comes along and POW you exploc
Why? "when you think you stand, take heed lest you fall." Why? Pride!
We try to live the Christian life in power of flesh!
3. SPIRITUAL DEFEAT PLACES YOU IN A POSITION TO HEAR GOD.(7:6-9)
Exp: Joshua was humiliated before God and everyone! What can I say God?
God says, Are you ready to listen Joshua.
Ill: Our defeats place u& to- where we can hear God! I believe this is why God allows
these things to happen to u ...
