"THE THRILL OF SPIRITUAL VICTORY"
JOSHUA 6:1-27
MARCH 11, 1990
INTRODUCTION: The 1989-90 Arkansas Razorback basketball team
is one of the most exciting teams in the country. Tell them
the story of the Texas game.(Lee Mayberry's famous three
point shot at the buzzer sent the game into overtime. Final
score was Arkansas 103 . . . Texas 96) Coach Nolan Richard-
son said, "This was my greatest victory of my career in Ark-
ansas."
Ill: Even as that was a great victory in this world, the
thrill of spiritual victory can be just as great. The thrill
of spiritual victory is determined by how great the enemy is
that you defeat in your spiritual life.
JOSHUA 5:12-15 Forty years of manna. Now they were in the
Promised land eating the food of it. Jesus appeared to
Joshua. Joshua worshipped him. Joshua had to lead the peo-
ple to possess the land by the battle at Jericho.
T.S.: In our study of this text today we learn about the
"Thrill of Spiritual Victory." I want you to learn with me
through this text today as we examine and apply it in a
threefold manner:
1. GOD'S PROMISE OF SPIRITUAL VICTORY.(6:1-2)
Exp: God gave Joshua the promise--It is yours, take it!
App: What is God's promise of spiritual victory for each
of you:
(1) Eternal life.(John 3:16)
(2) Abundant life.(John 10:10)
(Victory over sin, self, and satan)
2. GOD'S PLAN FOR SPIRITUAL VICTORY.(6:3-5, 6-16, 20-25)
Ill: Our God is an organized God. He has given to us
in the Bible many specific plans. In this story
God lays out the plan specifically in verses 3-5
and then follows up with some instructions after
the wall had fallen down.
Exp: The Lord speaks to them in a two-fold capacity
and He speaks to us in a two-fold capacity:
(1) THIS IS WHAT YOU DO.(vs. 3-5, 6-16, 20-25)
*You do what God says and you will receive
what God has for you!
1. Eternal life-Turn from sin and surrender
to Jesus as Lord.(Acts 3:19 says, "Repent
ye therefore, and be converted, that your
sins be blotte ...
