"DEACONS: THE INFLUENTIAL SERVANTS"
Acts 6:3-5; 8:1-5, 9-13, 25, 27a, 35, 37-40
INTRODUCTION: I could preach today on the "knit-picky" qualifications of a deacon that most of
you think to be very important.
These could have been controversial issues such as: Can a deacon be divorced?
Can a deacon drink alcoholic beverage? Can we ordain women as deacons? Can
deacon's wives talk alot and cause trouble within the body of Christ?
Answer these!
*I submit to you today that what I will preach on today should outweigh the others
that I have mentioned by far!
**Deacons are to be influential servants in the body of Christ! Our biggest problem
today is we probably make more oout of the deacon than what is there in Scripture.
***What will you do if you are a deacon? What will you do today if you are a prospecti,
deacon? What should weigh your opinion as a member of this church concerning
the nominating of eight men to become deacons in our church? ONE OF THE GREATEST
ELEMENTS OF 1 TIMOTHY 3 IS THAT HE IS TO BE A PROVEN MAN! PROVEN IN WHAT? I will
share that with you today by sharing from the life of Philip!
*****Diakonos--servant! That is what a deacon is to literally be to this church and to
our Lord!
1. YOU WILL ALLOT TIME TO SPEND WIOTH THE LORD YOUR GOD. (:3, 5-)-
Exp: All of the qualifications were in Philips life because he spent time with the Lord.
He had a good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit, very wise, prayed, and was a leader!
Why? because he spent time with God.
Ill: Peter Lord--One hour a day he challenged me to spend with God!
App: Days are better and direction is clearer when I spend time with God!
If a deacon does not walk with God by spending time with God daily who should in the
church more than him?
Any prospective deacon you have in mind should be one who spends time with the Lord
and his life should bear fruit of being filled and controlled by the Holy Spirit.
