"The Searchlight of God"
1 John 1:5-7
INTRODUCTION: Flashlight used in the day time versus the
evening. Even if it were night, you could run all over this
auditorium hiding from me, but eventually I probably could
locate you with this light. You cannot hide from God because
He is light.
Define Search: a. to go and look through carefully in order
to find something missing. b. to look at or examine carefully
in order to find something concealed.(light reveals and searches
and reveals the concealed. It finds the missing)
Define Searchlight: A device consisting of a light and a re-
flector for throwing a strong beam of light in any direction.
T.S. Since God is light and light searches I want to tell you
God has a searchlight. This is why I am speaking today on
"The Searchlight of God."
Exp: Since the apostles have witnessed this one called
Jesus they refer to hearing him speak of his message.
(John 8:12) "I am the light of the world; he who fol-
lows me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have
the light of life."
"God is light"-(Phos) Used as a name telling us that
light is God's nature. Proclaim this news.
They are confronting a community divided about what they
think of Jesus being light will help them examine faith.
In OT-light in an intellectual senes symbolizes truth
(where darkness is error) moral sense to repre-
sent righteousness(where darkness is evil).
"God is light"-is a penetrating description of the be-
ing and nature of God. (Amos 5:8 says, "light is God's
sphere or garment.") The thought was sin does not ef-
fect me.
The joy of God is that God is love-the judgment of God
is light. (Physical connotation of light is glory, in-
tellectual connotation of light is truth, moral conno-
tation is the holiness of God)
*God's searchlight is his holiness-he is set apart in
absolute purity.
"In him is no darkness at all"-In God there is no "skO-
