LAST WEEK BAPTIST PRESS RELEASED SOME VERY INTERESTING NEWS TO
38,000 PLUS CHURCHES IN OUR SOUTHERN BAPTIST CONVENTION.
Baptist Press recorded that since 1972,
the age group 12-17 years, has shown the greatest decline in
baptisms. This 20 year slide of
reaching youth with the gospel has caught the attention of
church leaders across America.
I am thankful, as this press release points out, that this is
not the condition of the First Baptist Church of
Springdale, Arkansas.

LAST YEAR OUR YOUTH MINISTRY LED THE ENTIRE SOUTHERN BAPTIST
CONVENTION IN YOUTH BAPTISMS BY BAPTIZING 272 YOUNG PEOPLE. The
press
release is full of quotes from our own Minister of Students,
John Cope. John , in his usual humble manner, gives all the
praise to God. DO YOU REALIZE THAT IN THE FOUR YEARS THAT JOHN
HAS BEEN WITH US, OUR SUNDAY MORNING ATTENDANCE BY YOUTH HAS
CLIMBED FROM AN AVERAGE OF 200 TO 450? His associates, Shawn
Smith and Jeff Payne, along with his wife Teresa, have been used
by God to bring about this dynamic growth! Because of many
outstanding youth workers, as well as a tremendous group of
young people, the First Baptist Church of Springdale is viewed
as one of the greatest churches in America with "young people on
our heart." Just think, God is doing this in a unique area of
the country with limited population compared to many churches
located in large metropolitan areas. Sometimes we are so CLOSE
TO SOMETHING WE TAKE IT FOR GRANTED. Well, we shouldn't. I am
thankful for a church that has teenagers so much on our heart
that much time, energy, and resources are poured into this
