INTRODUCTION: Pastoring and carrying out the leadership responsibilities of this, almost 9,000 membership, congregation is simple, compared to the greatest challenge in my life, being an effective parent to my two boys. Not that my boys are bad, they are great guys, yet it is a challenge to lead them as God wants me to lead them. One of the greatest struggles of parenting is that you learn it "on-the-job" meaning you will make mistakes. I have made mistakes many times, have gone to my boys and confessed to them, and asked for their forgiveness.

I have talked with Josh and Nick this week and asked their permission to share our lives openly with you. All of our children are under immense pressure. As children of a visible Christian leader, we try to operate as a normal family, yet we do not tolerate "preacher's kids" jokes which adds to the pressure.

Ill: I believe God's best for Josh and Nick is to grow up loving Jesus and His Church. This is my prayer for them.

Ill: Satan wants all our kids. As parents, we are there to protect them. Most of the time when Josh and Nick leave for a night away with a friend or a group, we remind them to whom they belong - Jesus, not who they are - my children. My reputation is not the issue, God's name is.

I believe God wants my children to live holy and pure lives; to one day, in the future, marry a godly woman; to enjoy life; and to have successful careers; whatever they may be.

T. S.: Choosing what is God's best for your child is one of the highest choices you will ever make as a person. Young people and children, if you have parents who want God's best for you, you are very blessed. So many times, I hear people attack the youth of our day.
