Hebrews 8:1-6

INTRODUCTION: This passage gives us a picture of Jesus’
heavenly work. It is exciting to know at this very moment we
are represented in heaven by One who bears the scars of His
love. The One who walked the dusty trails of Israel, died on
the cross, arose from the dead, and ascended on high is now
ministering and mediating before God. He is the Lamb of God,
slain from the foundation of the world, resurrected and
ascended, bearing the scars of battle. The only thing there
that’s been made by man are the scars in the hands of Jesus.

The sacrifice that the Lord Jesus Christ made for us at Calvary
is a provision totally superior to any made before. Jesus, our
High Priest, gives a better covenant.

I. THE MAJESTY OF OUR HIGH PRIEST. 1

“Majesty” - power or authority; speaks of God’s
throne of majesty that is in heaven where His whole
being is gloriously manifested. Place of supreme
dominion and authority.

“Sum” - main point; chief, main matter, climax of my
discussion; apex, zenith, crowning point.

A. SPEAKS OF CHARACTER.

“We have such a high Priest” - as the One described
in Heb. 7:26-28. It is like a resume on Jesus for
position of High Priest; “WHO HE IS”.

The fact that Jesus is morally perfect and yet
identified with us in our needs and temptations makes
Him superior to any other priest, past or present.

He is “suited” for and to us.

B. SPEAKS OF COMPLETION.

“who is seated” - finished; work of the priest was
never finished, therefore, no chair in the tabernacle
or temple. Each repeated sacrifice was only a
reminder that none of the sacrifices ever provided a
finished salvation. “WHAT HE DID”
