A Biblical Witness to Spiritual Leadership: Servant Leadership
INTRODUCTION: Matt 20:28, ''Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.'' The Son of Man was certainly the head of the church, but His leadership was the model for His followers.
If your spiritual life is not healthy, you will not be able to handle the social, marital, and financial aspects of life effectively. Your relationship to the Savior and your relationship to church leaders reveal the health of your spiritual life.
I. THE CHURCH'S STABILITY. 7-9
''Remember those who rule over you'' - those who lead you; remember means to be mindful; to keep in mind.
A. ITS SERVANT LEADERS. 7
We are to respect those whom God entrusts with positions of leadership among His people; not dictators, but one who leads and directs you.
1. THE WORD OF GOD. 7a
Loyalty to the Word of God. How tragic for a family to put their children under a dead ministry or a liberal ministry because of attractions to buildings, programs, musical styles, or tradition. Your church should be one of conviction, not convenience - ''the difference is worth the distance.''
2. THE WALK WITH GOD. 7b
''whose faith follow'' - imitate; they say that a church eventually will take on the spirit of the pastor.
''considering the outcome of their conduct'' life consistent with the message. The preacher's doctrine should produce a Christ-like life.
B. ITS SAVIOR. 8
Ministers and leaders come and go, and eventually they all die, but the Source of our lives and power never leaves and never passes away. His pre-eminence is permanent, His leadership is forever. The real leader is the man who is led, himself, by Jesus Christ.
Yesterday, He helped me; Today, He did the same. How long will this continue? Forever, praise His name!
