GOOD BEHAVIOR OF A GENUINE BELIEVER

I Thess. 2:7-10
April 9, 1995

INTRODUCTION: "We behaved ourselves among you that
believe." v.10. The Apostle Paul behaved in such a way that
God was honored. Belief behaves! When we do that, God will
begin to do something. When we begin to live like that, the
world will beat down the doors of the church trying to get in.
The trouble in churches today is that the outsider looks in and
sees viciousness, criticism, unkindness, and a lack of
commitment.

At the climax of Paul's impassioned defense before his critics,
he reveals a most attractive warmth from deep within. Paul
deeply loved the Thessalonians. Several words describe his
relationship to these new believers.

I. GENTLENESS. v.7

A. HIS DECLARATION. 7a

"gentle among you" - the emphasis of a mother is
gentleness. As an apostle, Paul was a man of authority;
but he always used his authority in love. These new
born babes in Christ sensed his tender loving care as he
nurtured them. He was likened unto a loving mother
who cared for her children.
