HIS EVALUATION OF US

Prov. 16:1-9
June 19, 1994

INTRODUCTION: On this Father's Day, it is not unusual to be
asked, "Have you been a good Dad this year, or today?" This
question is normally answered based on our financial investment
and not our commitment to biblical truth. Solomon certainly has
some words of wisdom for our consideration of the subject. It
amazes me as to how God deals with man and leaves no stones
unturned. By the way, He is concerned about every area of our
life. Let's note a few:

I. OUR SPEECH. v.1

"To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord
comes the reply of the tongue."

A. THE PLANS OF THE HEART. 1a

God sovereignly enables people to put their thoughts
into words.

Prov. 15:1, "A soft answer turneth away wrath, but
grievous words stir up anger."

B. THE REPLY OF THE TONGUE. 1b

TAKEN 2 WAYS:

1. The thoughts and speech are the same.

2. The speech differs from what the person had
intended to say.

The victory is that when someone is trying to speak
before others, the Lord directs the words according to
His sovereign will.

II. OUR WAYS. v.2

"All a man's ways seem innocent to him, but motives are
weighed by the Lord."


A. OUR OPINION. 2a

"clean" - innocent; pure oils, undiluted liquid,
unmixed
actions.
