James 3:l-2



INTRODUCTION: Great responsibility goes along with honor and
esteem. Some sought the honor given to the teacher, but did not
want to pay the price to be the kind of teacher that God can
use. Some desire position w/o the mission. James is not
promoting silence, but is promoting control. Teacher must
practice what they teach or their teaching is hypocrisy.

I. A CAUTIOUS PURSUIT. v.l

Avoid becoming teachers. Don't run quickly into the
role
of teaching. James cautions those who would be leaders
to examine their motives. Privilege - responsibility -
accountability.

A. SERIOUSNESS OF CALLING. la

Teach and practice teaching. Matt. 23:2-7, "For
they say, and do not." Some teachers do more harm
than good. Is the Lord directing you, or are you
gratifying desires for self-promotion?

B. SURETY OF CONDEMNATION. lb

Luke l2:48

We shall incur a stricter judgment; judged more
severly.

Romans l4:l0-l2; I Cor. 3:ll-l5

WHY?

- Because the teacher is responsible to teach the
truth and not his own opinion

- Because that which a teacher teaches affects
many lives

- Because the teacher is expected to live the truth
