WHO YOU ARE AND WHOSE YOU ARE
I Timothy 1:1-2
November 3, 1991
INTRODUCTION: Paul wrote this next to the last of his letters
to Timothy and his young church in the city of Ephesus to
encourage him. As a young pastor of a local church, Timothy
needed to know how to manage and lead the church and Paul wished
to enforce Timothy's authority as a servant of God.
In spite of Timothy's conversion and calling or his close
association with the Apostle Paul, or even his spiritual gifts,
Timothy was easily discouraged.
Timothy was raised in the city of Lystra by a Greek Gentile
father and a devout Jewish mother by the name of Eunice. It is
believed also that his godly grandmother, Lois, lived with them.
He had certainly been brought up right. In the first chapter
of this letter, Paul gives an introduction, a warning, and a
charge. Today, we will look on at the first of these three
points of order.
